Reinforcement Learning • Applied Machine Learning & Deep Learning • Data Science • Graph Theory

I am a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at BRAC University, with an academic background in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. I am currently pursuing an M.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering with a specialization in Data Science.

My primary research interest lies in Reinforcement Learning, particularly in developing and applying RL methods to practical problems in Data Science. I am also interested in applied Machine Learning and Deep Learning, with a strong personal interest in Graph Theory and graph-based problem solving.

Research

Research Interests

My primary research interest is Reinforcement Learning, particularly applied RL in Data Science. I am interested in how sequential decision-making methods can be used to solve practical problems involving uncertainty, optimization, adaptation, and data-driven control.

I am also interested in applied Machine Learning and Deep Learning across different application domains.

Graph Theory holds a particularly strong personal appeal for me. Its structures, abstractions, and problem-solving perspectives genuinely intrigue me, and I enjoy exploring and brainstorming graph-based problems even outside formal academic work.

Undergraduate Thesis

Study of Net Zero Energy Buildings

Supervisor:
Yeasir Arafat
Associate Professor, Department of EEE, BUET

Investigated the feasibility of Net Zero Energy Buildings in Bangladesh using building energy simulation and renewable energy integration.

Selected Projects

Reinforcement Learning

RATE: Relative Amplitude TD Exploration

Developed an adaptive exploration method for reinforcement learning in which exploration is driven by the magnitude of the TD error relative to value estimates. The method was benchmarked against standard exploration strategies using tile-coded Sarsa(λ) and Double DQN across four Gymnasium environments.

Advanced Bioinformatics

Cross-Platform Benchmarking of Human PBMC Transcriptomic Data

Benchmarked Microarray, Bulk RNA-seq, and Single-Cell RNA-seq PBMC datasets using bioinformatics pipelines. The analysis compared cross-platform biological signals and investigated the effect of MAGIC-based imputation on single-cell data.

Probabilistic Machine Learning

Detection of Disease-Related Genetic Variants using BWT and Machine Learning

Developed a pipeline combining BWT-based sequence alignment, genetic variant identification, sparse machine learning, pathway-aware feature selection, and Markov Random Fields for modeling gene interactions and disease-related patterns.

Beyond Academics

Outside the rough and tough world of academics, I am a huge fan of football. As a die-hard fan of the Albiceleste and the Blaugrana, my favorite players are Messi and Pedri. We are default mates if you are also a Culer or a supporter of the sky-blues.

I am also a PC addict. I love to play video games. From my love of football, I am a regular Ultimate Team player of EA FC (formerly FIFA). I cordially welcome any fellow FUT player out there. NFS and COD also comprise a big part of my gaming career. In fact, my very first game from childhood was Need For Speed. This reminds me, my PC name is Prisoner 6-2-7. If you are also a Modern Warfare fan, you should get the name. When I built my current setup, I gave a story on Facebook, "The heart of Prisoner 6-2-7", captioning the CPU photo. Most people are more obsessed with GPUs; I find CPUs more amazing.

Another of my very favorite pastimes is reading fiction. And I have read a lot of them. I also love to keep track of my reading through Goodreads. Not to show off (actually a bit of show-off), but because I forget the stories, even the names of books, after finishing them. Tells a lot about my bad memory. Leaving my profile link here too if someone is interested in getting some good suggestions: My Goodreads . My favorite writers are J. K. Rowling, Humayun Ahmed, and Satyajit Roy. Harry Potter is my favorite series of all time, the GOAT. I feel pity for the movies after reading the actual series. I love to boast about this every time I say something about reading books. The sad thing is I have downgraded from twenty books a year to barely one or two. I think opening a self-shaming portal is more necessary than the book review page I opened and am unable to continue due to this: 9-3/4" under Hardcovers.
